A Fort Valley State University (FVSU) professor recently earned a seat on a national accreditation board.
Dr. Francine Hollis, chair, of FVSU’s Family and Consumer Sciences Department (FACS), was named to the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) Council for Accreditation.
Hollis will serve on the council for three years beginning in 2024 and ending in 2027.
The AAFCS focuses on professionals and students in FACS. The organization provides them with a means to share knowledge, research and experiences in the profession.
Hollis said she is honored to be named to the AAFCS post.
“I consider this appointment to be both a privilege and a significant responsibility. I am excited to contribute to the continued excellence and integrity of academic programs in our field. Being recognized by my peers for this role is a testament to the hard work and dedication I’ve put into advancing family and consumer sciences. I look forward to making meaningful contributions.”
The FVSU professor said her primary duties will involve reviewing and evaluating family and consumer programs across the U.S. and ensuring they meet the high standards set by the AAFCS.
“I will assist with assessing program curricula, faculty qualifications, student outcomes and overall program effectiveness. Additionally, I will be involved in the decision-making process regarding the accreditation status of these programs, which is crucial for maintaining quality and credibility in our profession,” she said.
Furthermore, Hollis says she hopes to contribute to the enhancement of FACS programs by promoting innovative practices and ensuring that standards keep pace with the changing needs of society.
“Ultimately, my goal is to help prepare the next generation of professionals who will make a positive impact on individuals, families and communities,” Hollis said.
Additionally, Hollis said that her appointment to the AAFCS position enhances the reputation of FVSU’s FACS program on a national level. It also highlights the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and leadership in the field.
“My involvement on the council for accreditation not only brings visibility to our program, but also allows us to contribute directly to the future of family and consumer sciences education. The recognition we receive will showcase FVSU as a leader in producing well-prepared graduates who are ready to excel in their careers,” she said.
In addition to her AAFCS duties on a national level, Hollis was also named as the vice president for professional development for the Georgia Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (GAFCS) earlier this year. GAFCS is the state affiliate of the AAFCS.
