Keavoydre Buchanan, a Fort Valley State University freshman agriculture education major, is the 2016 recipient of the James Harrison Hill Sr. Book Scholarship. James Harrison Hill Sr. served as the Southern SARE (Sustainable Agriculture and Resources Education) Program limited-resources and minority outreach specialist, based at FVSU. In his role, he worked as a liaison between the 1890 Land Grant Universities and small farmers seeking grants. Hill passed in January after serving at FVSU for more than 10 years. The scholarship, created in his honor, is a $500 award given to a needs based student majoring in agriculture with an interest in sustainable agriculture. SARE provides funding for the scholarship in honor of Hill.

Buchanan, a 19-year- old Dawson native, said he was excited to learn that he received the funds to cover his book expenses.
