Fort Valley State University and the University of Georgia Extension to host in-person workshop on September 25.

Fort Valley State University (FVSU) and the University of Geogia’s (UGA) Cooperative Extension programs will host a free, in-person workshop about wills, trusts and estate planning on Thursday, Sept. 25.

“Your Legacy, Your Plan” will take place from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Edward B. Pope Conference Center located at 48B Lexington Ave. in Washington, Georgia. Due to limited space, participants are encouraged to register by Monday, Sept. 22 at forms.office.com/r/81b4bnnbxp. Lunch will be provided to all participants.

The workshop is part of the Georgia Farmer’s Initiative for Training and Sustainability (GA-FITS) program.

The GA-FITS program is a collaboration between FVSU and UGA’s Cooperative Extension programs. It focuses on educational workshops pertaining to estate planning and helping farmers with sustainability and training initiatives.

Gracy Barksdale, attorney at law, John Donsbach of Donsbach Law Group LLC. and Dr. Travis Mountain, assistant professor of Extension in financial planning at UGA, are the featured speakers.

Some topics of discussion include power of attorney and health care.

Phillip Petway, FVSU 4-H Cooperative Extension agent for Twiggs County and a member of the GA-FITS committee, shared why people should attend the event.

“Interested people in Wilkes and surrounding counties should attend this workshop to educate themselves on the estate planning process. This will help them manage financial, medical and guardianship issues that may arise in the future,” he said.

Ida Jackson, UGA family and consumer sciences agent for Wilkes County and Joshua Dawson, FVSU agriculture and natural resources agent for Lowndes County, will facilitate the activity.

For more information about this workshop, contact Ida Jackson at (706) 678-2332 or email at (ida.jackson@uga.edu).
