Food and Nutrition

The aim of the food and nutrition concentration is to prepare students to pursue professional careers related to food, food science, nutrition, and health.  Graduates will be able to utilize acquired knowledge, experiences, skills, and training

Overview

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences offers one degree, a Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, with two concentrations – Food and Nutrition and Infant and Child Development.  The food and nutrition program equips graduates to become ambassadors of health and wellness for individuals, families and communities through a comprehensive curriculum.

The Department is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.

Mission

The mission of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is to prepare graduates for food and nutrition and infant and child development-related professional careers by providing an integrated educational experience garnered on teaching, scholarly activities, and outreach and to deliver effective and quality outreach programming in the area of infant and child development.

Vision

The vision of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is to be recognized nationally for excellence in family and consumer sciences programs.

The Department aims to enhance its effectiveness by 1) enhancing the academic experience, 2) strengthening core values through innovative programs and research, and 3) enabling community and global partnership collaborations.
