Infant and Child Development
The aim of the infant and child development concentration is to prepare students to pursue professional careers related to providing quality and developmentally appropriate services to young children from birth to age five and their families.
Overview
The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences offers one degree, a Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, with two concentrations – Food and Nutrition and Infant and Child Development. The Infant and Child Development program is designed to equip teachers of young children with the fundamental views and skills needed to effectively nurture the development of young minds.
The Department is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.
Mission
The mission of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is to prepare graduates for food and nutrition and infant and child development-related professional careers by providing an integrated educational experience garnered on teaching, scholarly activities, and outreach and to deliver effective and quality outreach programming in the area of infant and child development.

The vision of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is to be recognized nationally for excellence in family and consumer sciences programs.
The Department aims to enhance its effectiveness by 1) enhancing the academic experience, 2) strengthening core values through innovative programs and research, and 3) enabling community and global partnership collaborations.
Curriculum
The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences offers a B.S. degree in family and consumer sciences. For this degree, students can elect one of two concentrations: infant and child development or food and nutrition.
